Newsmax followers skyrocket as Trump backs ditching Fox

Washington: Conservative media outlet Newsmax has enjoyed a massive surge in followers across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube over the past month.

Rising social media subscribers, viewers and interactions trends continued this weekend after the outlet’s content was again amplified by President Donald Trump, who has turned on Fox News in recent weeks, broadly citing its coverage about his election defeat.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that Fox was “virtually unwatchable” and pointed his vast Twitter following in the direction of Newsmax and the One America News Network (OANN), another outlet sympathetic to the president.

For Newsmax, a long-running media endeavor overseen by a Trump confidant named Christopher Ruddy, the high-profile endorsements appear to be paying off.

According to data from analytics platform Social Blade, which tracks the daily shifts of profiles, “likes” on the Newsmax Facebook page have spiked by over 1.4 million in the past 30 days, with a daily average rise of 47,241. On Saturday, when the channel was talked about by Trump, its Facebook page attracted over 30,000 new likes.

The pattern was echoed on Twitter, where its account gained 563,735 new followers in the past 30 days. It amassed 27,105 new fans Saturday.

On YouTube, Newsmax brought in 1.18 million new subscribers over the past 30 days, a daily average rise of nearly 40,000. Video views on the platform rose by 108 million in the past 30 days, according to Social Blade.

Ruddy previously said Trump’s election was a big opportunity for Newsmax because he was “raising questions about the mainstream media,” CNN reported in 2017.

In the wake of Trump’s election defeat to Joe Biden, Newsmax continued to uncritically cover Trump’s baseless accusations of voter fraud.

Ruddy told The New Yorker in an interview published earlier this month that his business has an “editorial policy of being supportive of the president and his policies,” but insisted that Newsmax coverage has overall been “very balanced and fair.”

The president’s relationship with Fox News appeared to deteriorate this month after the network was first to project that Biden had won the state of Arizona. Trump tweeted on November 12 that the channel’s daytime ratings had “completely collapsed.”

White House adviser retracts comments on China deal ‘over’

Washington: White House adviser Peter Navarro has said that the trade deal with China “continues in place” while adding that his earlier comments that the pact was “over” were taken out of context, The Financial Post reported.

US President Donald Trump also confirmed Navarro’s statement in a tweet that the deal was “fully intact.” Hopefully they will continue to live up to the terms of the agreement,” Trump said on Twitter.

Navarro earlier said the trade deal with China is “over,” and he linked the breakdown to Washington’s anger over Beijing’s not sounding the alarm earlier about the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s over,” Navarro told Fox News in an interview when asked about the trade agreement. He said the “turning point” came when the United States learned about the spreading coronavirus only after a Chinese delegation had left Washington following the signing of the Phase 1 deal on January 15.

“It was at a time when they had already sent hundreds of thousands of people to this country to spread that virus, and it was just minutes after wheels up when that plane took off that we began to hear about this pandemic,” Navarro said.

US-China relations have reached their lowest point in years since the coronavirus pandemic that started in China caused many deaths in the United States. President Donald Trump and his administration repeatedly have accused Beijing of not being transparent about the outbreak.

Trump renewed his threat to cut ties with China, a day after his top diplomats held talks with Beijing and his trade representative said he did not consider decoupling the US and Chinese economies a viable option.

It us up to the blacks to lift themselves

By Basab Dasgupta

Is there any hope of an end to this black/white racial tension in this country in my lifetime? I see some hope based on what I see in people like the conservative black journalist/activist Candace Owens.

Ms. Owens views are simple and easy to understand. She believes that blacks should not dwell in the past especially since the young blacks today have no experience and no idea about the mistreatment their forefathers had endured. They should be thankful for all the opportunities they have at their disposal and move on to build prosperous lives. They should not feel animosity towards white people with the mistaken belief that they are still viewed as slaves.

According to Ms. Owens solution would come from what she calls a “civil war” of ideology within the black community itself. This is a profound statement. Solution cannot come from some outside external effort by white folks such as desegregation or welfare program or equal opportunity policy. She points out that the blacks have the opportunity to live a wonderful life in the most prosperous country in the world.

Her views were embraced by the black music superstar Kanye West. Mr. West was immediately chastised and ridiculed by the liberals and most of the black community but he did not back down. He created a storm of controversy by saying that 400 years of slavery “sounds more like a choice”. In other words, the blacks seem to prefer to present themselves as victims instead of making an effort to change their lives.  Unfortunately, most black celebrities continue to fuel the fire of racism-induced hatred.

Ms. Owens practices what she preaches. She lives in an upscale community in Connecticut, has a white boyfriend and is highly educated. If more prominent black celebrities spread similar messages that might signal a new beginning.
