Building of grand Ram temple begins in Ayodhya

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a “Bhoomi Pujan” or a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the building of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. After the ceremony which saw him laying a silver brick at the site, he addressed a gathering of spiritual leaders who had come to attend the grand event.

“India is emotional as decades of wait has ended. Crores won’t believe that they have seen this day in our lifetime. For years, our Ram Lalla (infant Lord Ram) lived beneath a tent, now he will reside in a grand temple built by Ram bhakts. Today, Ram Janambhoomi has been liberated,” said PM Modi, who began his address chanting “Siyavar Ram Chandra ki Jai!” and “Jai Siya Ram“.

The trimmed guest list in view of coronavirus had 50 VIPs at the ceremony including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.  Bhagwat said several people made sacrifices for the temple and now there is a wave of joy across the country: “There are many who could not be physically present today, but they are present in spirit. I am sure all of them, including Advani ji, would glad today to see their dream come true.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah who could not attend the ‘Bhumi Pujan’ ceremony as he recovers from Covid-19 infection, said that the consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is the beginning of a new era in India. He tweeted that the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is a symbol of the strong and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

For Ayodhya and many cities in the country it was early Diwali as people celebrated  by lighting diyas, bursting crackers and in some places holding Ramlila performances.
